One Size Does Not Fit All……Love

Love is a funny emotion. You can feel it, see it, want it, give it, hate it and be grateful for it. You can wish you were in love or wish you could stop loving someone because you know it’s time to stop. Or you can wish you still loved someone because it would be the wise thing to do.
Love is magical and confusing. It’s just not the same for everyone.

For several years I have written a yearly February article on love. And three years ago, Mary Beth and I wrote a book about it, Living Brave…In Love, Stories of Intimacy Lost and Found.  It's a great collection of love stories and was an eye-opener for both of us…we thought we knew much about love!  Worth the read. Especially the novelette in the center of the book, The Two Night Stand. Another confusing story of being loved, losing love, finding love, absolving love.
Love feels different for everyone. It doesn’t settle in the same for anyone. I mean everyone does love their own way, depending on how they came to know love, their love language and their expectations from love. More confusing.
I don’t have more to add except that we need more love than ever before this year, and I have a few quotes I hope will bring a smile to your face. At the very least, cause you to think about love. After all, one size love does not fit all.                                                                                                                                      “Everything I’ve ever let go of has claw marks on it.” -David Foster Wallace
“I like flaws and feel more comfortable around people who have them. I myself am made entirely of flaws, stitched together with good intentions.” -Augusten Burroughs
“If you have the ability to love, love yourself first.” -Charles Bukowski
“Some things exist just to be beautiful. They don’t have to make any more sense than that.” -The Last Tycoon
“Mistakes are proof that you are trying.” -Author unknown
“Love is a decision.” – Lione Moriarty
“If they don’t have it at Costco, you don’t need it!” -Joe Schneider
“Anything created in love, cannot be destroyed.” – Ted Hougland
“I’ve just said yes to so many things I didn’t want to do” -Linda Wilson
“When I was young, I was a bumper chick. When a boy broke up with me, I hung on to the bumper as he drove away.” -Oprah Winfrey
“I think you are suffering from a lack of me.” -Author unknown

And as Mary Beth wrote in our book on love: “Whether loving a spouse, a significant other, a child, a grandchild, a friend, or a colleague, the way in which we love can be compared to a body of water—some days it’s the pounding waves of an ocean and other days it’s a serene, placid lake. And yes, to carry the metaphor a bit further: it’s ultimately our choice whether to sink or swim.”

Have it your way… but love anyway.
