Styling Tips

Want to look GREAT between appointments?  Here are some handy tips to keep that Pluma Look !

Pluma Blow-Out ...
Salon Results at Home

  • Begin with the end in mind. What is the look you are trying to accomplish?  Do you want a sleek and straight look or a full and bouncy style?  This will determine the products you use, as well as the drying method.

  • Use good quality shampoos and conditioners, intended for your hair type. (Volume shampoo and light, weightless conditioner for fine hair, hydrating shampoo and moisture conditioner for thick or curly hair), taking into consideration the look you want to accomplish.

  • After shampoo and conditioning treatment, comb hair thoroughly and apply styling products.  We suggest a strengthening spray, a light weight gel, a product with heat protection and color lock system. (Ask your stylist)

  • Power-dry the base of your hair (hair closest to your scalp) in the direction that you will be wearing your hair and always use the nozzle on your dryer. This will control air flow and direction of the style. Dry the base until it is about 80% dry.

  • If you are styling fringe (bangs) dry them first to establish the direction. Put down your dryer and with several large clips, beginning with the top of your head and working your way down to the nape, create 4 to 6 sections separating them up and out of your way. Do not clip up the bottom nape section.

  • Starting with the bottom nape section wrap the section of hair around the brush making sure your nozzle is blowing with the direction of the cuticle and not against it.  Each section should not be wider or longer than the size of the brush you are using.

  • Starting at the nape and moving up on the head, you are establishing the foundation of your desired style. Be sure each section is completely dry. Exaggerate the direction of your brush in an upward motion for maximum volume; move brush straight out from your scalp for medium volume and move brush down for least volume and close to the head style.

  • After drying each section with hot air, use the cool button and cool off each section before removing the brush and moving to the next section. This will lock in curl and volume for a no-frizz straighter look.  Leave hair in place-do not run hands or brush through…yet.

  • When you have completed drying, blow your hair with the dryer in all directions with the cold shot to lock in the volume and connect the sections.

  • Gently comb out or fluff with hands and voila! You will have a Pluma Blow-Out!

Do's and Don'ts for Healthy, Beautiful Hair

  • Don’t purchase inexpensive, out-dated products containing high levels of alcohol, paraffin wax and fillers that will dry and damage your hair.

  • Do invest your money and consider the health of your body and hair by purchasing high-quality hair care product and colors that are formulated with natural, botanical, and organic based ingredients.

  • Don’t go to bed with the day’s hair products and environmental pollutants in your hair.

  • Do brush your hair thoroughly (100 strokes with a vent brush) to stimulate healthy hair growth and to remove any lingering oils and environmental pollutants.

  • Don’t apply conditioner to excessively wet hair. It will weaken and dilute the conditioning effects.

  • Do towel dry your hair after shampooing and before applying the conditioner for superior results by using a dry hand-towel in the shower.

  • Don’t throw away the nozzle of your hair dryer.
  • Do make use of the nozzle every time you blow dry your hair to direct the air, control the flow and to protect the hair form the dryer’s heating coils.

  • Don’t use a brush on extremely wet hair.

  • Do dry the base of the hair with your fingers throughout the head, directing the style into place, before using a brush to complete the styling process.

  • Don’t allow your hair to become dry, fragile and dehydrated.

  • Do use an intense moisturizing and strengthening treatment on a regular, monthly basis to redeposit the hydration and protein strength necessary for healthy, manageable and youthful hair.

  • Don’t hold on to an old, outdated hair style.

  • Do make changes and update your style by considering just a 15% change every year. Add some layers, fringe around the face, a few highlights around the face, or a Body Wave to add volume and support. Be open to change. Love your hair!

  • Don’t neglect your body.

  • Do eat healthy, think intentionally, move your body and live gratefully!
