One Moment Please...

It must be maturity coming over me, but when I hear the words ‘one moment please’ it doesn’t bother me. It used to irritate me. Having to wait and feeling dismissed by 3 words. Didn’t they know I didn’t have an extra moment to wait? Why did they bother to answer if I was going to wait anyway? And on and on I thought while waiting. What a self-important pill I was. And now, I’m thrilled to hear a human’s voice on the line. It gives me time to prepare myself even better with my question or directive or it becomes a reminder to breathe. So many of us are not breathing enough these days.

I have come to know that life still happens in the moments while we are waiting. Take one moment please. Review, remember, and breathe.
The moments we wait are just as measurable and alive as the moments when the time arrives with whatever we were waiting for. While waiting, we’re thinking, planning, worrying and speculating. Most likely we are filled with expectancy of either a failure of our desires or the fruition of our requests. That may sound a bit dramatic, but the point is, our minds, our attention, while in the moments of waiting continue to direct our lives. There is a sound and scientifically proven mind philosophy I have come to trust; where our attention goes, that grows. In her book, Remember, The science of Memory and the Art of Forgetting, Lisa Genova states, “We can only capture and retain what we pay attention to.”

In the waiting, we are anticipating and living in a preconceived notion of doing nothing and don’t realize we are indeed living that moment and creating the outcome of other moments to come. Waiting in the moments of the human journey of expectancy to add to our reality. Our lives are, after all, one moment after another. Watch your thinking while waiting. Pay attention, review, remember and breathe.

In Gabrielle Bernstein’s book, Super Attractor, she writes; “As you add up the moments, they become our reality…. The antipode for worrying moments is appreciation.”
Recently my friend Linda Brown received sad news concerning dear friends. In her email for prayer request she wrote, “Thanks for any pause in your moments to send prayers of protection for these dear ones.” I appreciated her comment ‘any pause in your moments’, an endorsement of what we all know. Pause requires conscious attention in our moments.
As for suffering in the moments, Tony Robins says this, “It’s not the conditions of the moments that make us suffer. It’s the decisions we make in the moments. Suffering is me obsessing about me.”

Such is the rhythm of life. With its peaks and valleys, ins and outs, ups and downs of our ever-changing emotions in the moments. We must decide what to contemplate….in the moments while we wait.

Allowing the moments to become the absolute faith in the universe of divine outcome, no storm lasts forever…no moment lasts forever. Could it be we are all prisoners of time……waiting, waiting for another moment to be ourselves again. Welcome to this…. your now moment. Make it the best moment every time. One moment please.
